Role of application (Grab)

Application also knows application software or apps for short. It has the ability to cover a whole range of programs as that can apply on almost any device, such as from desktop computer and laptop to the smartphone and also tablet as well. Different kind of apps have their own purpose and usefulness. For example, user can through the apps from managing social media, to productivity software for creating and editing document and many more. Besides that, application is no need to use the computer’s core running system like utilities or maintenance programs, that are normally preinstalled on a computer or device do. As application is run completely independently, so they don’t rely on the core of computer to provide them information (Clare & Dale, 2018).

There have several types of application software, such as desktop application, web-based applications, and application suites. Desktop application is the apps that user need to install at their computer. It is a kind of high-powered software that uses computer’s memory directly to carry out an action. For example, the apps of desktop application such as a word processor, music player and more. Next, web-based applications. Some of the apps that is just allow users to access tools through web browsers and some is exist in web format. Through the web-based application, it can help user to free up space on their hard drive and network and they also can bee accessed from anywhere in the world at any time, as the data is already store in the cloud. Lastly, application suite is allowing the apps to grouped together in it and to offering a variety of different apps to cover more aspect of user’s business, home usage and more. For example, Microsoft's Office comprises the company's full set of productivity applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint (Hopping & Walker, 2018).

Besides that, the benefit of application. The developed of apps is to meet the need of the end user. As different apps have different function, so user can base on their need to choose the apps they want to download and use it. Besides that, threat of virus is very less in application software. As business that incorporates it can restrict access and can come up with means to protect their network as well (Smith, 2017). Hence, it provides the security and privacy to the sure. Moreover, it also brings a lot of convenient to user and help them save their time. For example, user can through online payment to do transaction apps through the apps., or can order food by food delivery apps and many more. By doing this, they no need waste their time go to bank or prepare their own food when they are busy with something. Thus, through the application, it really brings a lot if benefit to user and help them solve their problem in life, if people can make good use of it.

For example, one of the apps is Grab. Grab is a delivery company. It is a smartphone-based transport booking platform that started in Malaysia as MyTeksi in order to instead the taxi and transport industry (Grab, 2016). It is founders by Anthony Tan and Tan Hooi Ling in June 2012. In previously Grab is known as Grab Taxi, but they change the name to Grab in 2016. This application is the leading of Southeast Asia ride-hailing platform. It helps people solve critical transportation challenges and make transport freedom a reality for 620 million people in Southeast Asia. As people can through the Grab go to the place they want to go and it is cheaper than the Taxi. It is available in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam (Armin, 2016).

Moreover, Grab also have provides a wide range of service on the app. For example, Grab Taxi for book a budget or premium taxi from Southeast Asia’s largest network of drives. Grab Car for ride in a private car and pay a fixed fare that is agreed upfront. Grab Bike to get around the city in the quickest way possible and Grab Express is for a delivery service to send the parcels and document (ExpatGo, 2018). Hence, through the Grab people not only can take the car to go their destination and also can help them send their parcels and documents.
